SRINAGAR, May 12: The death toll due to COVID-19 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 2,912 as 65 more people died in the past 24 hours. Following 4509 new cases the total number of positive cases reached 2, 29,407. Jammu district reported 24 fresh deaths followed by Srinagar district nine deaths, Rajouri district eight deaths, Kathua and Pulwama districts five deaths each, Samba district three deaths, Udhampur, Ramban, Kupwara and Anantnag districts two deaths each and Doda, Poonch & Kulgam districts one death each. Srinagar district reported 863 new cases followed by Jammu district 621 cases, Baramulla district 377 cases, Pulwama district 327 cases, Budgam district 260 cases, Anantnag district 233 cases, Rajouri district 230 cases, Kulgam district 200 cases, Kathua district 193 cases, Doda district 190 cases, Shopian district 162 cases, Udhampur district 149 cases, Ganderbal district 139 cases, Bandipora district 108 cases, Samba district 105 cases, Poonch district 86 cases, Kishtwar district 83 cases, Kupwara district 81 cases, Ramban district 78 cases and Reasi district 24 cases. The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 4,509 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 1,759 from Jammu division and 2,750 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2, 29,407. Also 65 COVID-19 deaths have been reported, 46 from Jammu division and 19 from Kashmir division. Moreover, 3,603 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 1,316 from Jammu division and 2,287 from Kashmir division. Out of 2, 29,407 positive cases, 51,542 are active positive, 1, 74,953 have recovered and 2,912 have died; 1,297 in Jammu division and 1,615 in Kashmir division. Out of 77, 75,092 test results available, 75, 45,685 samples have tested negative till date. Till date 19, 32,873 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 84,984 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 51,542 in isolation and 1, 32,262 in home surveillance. Besides, 16, 61,173 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 55,544 positive cases, 10,755 active positive, 44,150 recovered, 639 deaths; Baramulla has 17,305 positive cases, 4,091 active positive, 13,001 recovered, 213 deaths; Budgam has 14,844 positive cases, 3,850 active positive, 10,848 recovered, 146 deaths; Anantnag has 10,759 positive cases, 3,913 active positive, 6,717 recovered, 129 deaths; Pulwama has 9,746 positive cases, 2,400 active positive, 7,217 recovered, 129 deaths. “Kupwara has 8,788 positive cases, 1,621 active positive, 7,055 recovered, 112 deaths; Kulgam has 7,135 positive cases, 3,345 active positive, 3,716 recovered, 74 deaths; Ganderbal has 6,546 positive cases, 1,033 active positive, 5,455 recovered, 58 deaths; Bandipora has 6,499 positive cases, 826 active positive, 5,602 recovered, 71 deaths and Shopian has 4,246 positive cases, 1270, active positive, 2,932 recovered, 44 deaths,” reads the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 41,818 positive cases, 7,708 active positive, 33,372 recovered, 738 deaths; Udhampur has 7,984 positive cases, 1,418 active positive, 6,481 recovered, 85 deaths; Rajouri has 7,224 positive cases, 2,936 active positive, 4,180 recovered, 108 deaths; Kathua has 6,613 positive cases, 1,581 active positive, 4,947 recovered, 85 deaths; Samba has 5,096 positive cases, 1,565 active positive, 3,456 recovered, 75 deaths. “Doda has 4,437 positive cases, 694 active positive, 3,671 recovered, 72 deaths; Reasi has 4,208 positive cases, 662 active positive, 3,525 recovered, 21 deaths; Poonch has 3,864 positive cases, 922 active positive, 2,892 recovered, 50 deaths; Ramban has 3,418 positive cases, 635 active positive, 2,746 recovered, 37 deaths and Kishtwar has 3,333 positive cases, 317 active positive, 2,990 recovered, 26 deaths,” reads the bulletin. Out of 2, 29,407 positive cases, 20,681 have been reported as travelers. The bulletin has informed the people that the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
