EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 12: Babus of Health Department claimed that 96.98 percent of the population in the age group of 45 years and above has been vaccinated in the ongoing drive. But the biggest question remains that if nearly 97 percent of the vulnerable chunk of the population has been inoculated, why Jammu is recording the highest number of deaths every day as compared to the other parts of the Union Territory. During a recent meeting, Babus of the Health Department informed that around 96 percent of the population in the age group of 45 plus had been vaccinated in Jammu alone while the figure was around 60% for the whole UT. Ironically, the majority of the patients, who succumbed to the deadly virus in Jammu district, fall under this age group which has been almost vaccinated. It was also informed in the meeting that the vaccination in the age-group 18-45 years was under process and daily around 200-250 shots in this age group were being provided in Jammu and around 16,438 persons had received the first dose in this age group. The Chair suggested that better information flow to the public should be carried out to facilitate the vaccination process a Despite inoculated whole vulnerable chunk of population, Jammu tops in death toll d if the vaccination centre is not operating at a certain time, it should be frankly conveyed to the public. The same figure was repeated in the official handout issued every evening. In the handout it was mentioned that 4,43,039 persons, above 45 years, have been vaccinated till date. As per this data this is 96.98 percent of the total population of this group. Figures prepared by Babus revealed that after Shopian of Kashmir Valley, Jammu has recorded the highest number of vaccination in the age group of 45 years and above. Data shared by the authorities has raised questions over availability of health infrastructure in J&K. Despite immunization of nearly 97 percent of the vulnerable chunk of population, such a huge number of deaths has exposed that there is something fishy in the health institute. In the whole UT of J&K, Jammu is top on the list of COVID deaths as 738 deaths have been reported from this district followed by Srinagar where 639 deaths have been recorded after the outbreak of pandemic. Ironically only 35.52 percent of the population, in the age group of 45 years and above, has been vaccinated in Srinagar district but death toll is less than Jammu. |
