Security forces detect, defuse IED in Shopian, 2nd in 24 hours in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 16: Security forces on Sunday claimed to have detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in south Kashmir district of Shopian. Earlier, it was reported that militants triggered a low intensity IED in Shopian though no one was injured in the blast. A Defence Ministry spokesperson said that security forces launched an operation based on input about presence of an IED between Sugan and Turkhwangam in south Kashmir on Sunday morning. “The security forces detected and defused the IED, averting a major tragedy,” he said. He said an intensive search operation has been launched in the area to nab the militants. The development comes a day after security forces on Saturday averted a major tragedy when a powerful IED was recovered from Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, who were planning to detonate it in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. “An IED weighing 10 kgs and other stores for making the device was recovered in Pulwama on Saturday,” they said, adding suspects and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were arrested. |
