DC Jammu takes effective steps against ‘mining mafia’, fixes prices of minerals

Jammu, May 26: After exposure of the mining mafia, Deputy Commissioner Jammu on Wednesday constituted multi-departmental district level task force to fix evaluate and fix prices of minerals.
As per the government, General Administrative Department J&K Government vide Government order No. 1569-GAD of 2018 dt. 22.10.2018, has accorded sanction to the constitution of Multi Departmental District Level Task Force Cell headed by Deputy Commissioner concerned to evaluate price/sale of mineral at Pit head and whereas, Government of J&K Department of Mining vide Government Notification issued under SO 60 of 2021 dated 23.02.2021 inter-alia has also directed that the Deputy Commissioner of the District may from time to time, by notification in the official Gazette, fix the maximum price of finished product per cubic meter for the whole of the district or different, areas and different prices may be fixed for different kinds having regard to specific gravity, size, compressive strength colour and end-use.
“While fixing such price per cubic meter for a minor mineral all relevant cost factors would be taken into account and whereas, a meeting of Multi-Departmental District Level Task Force Cell was held on 17.04.21 wherein the sale rates of minor minerals at source were reviewed & rationalized by the committee after detailed deliberations to ensure that lessees/license holders/sellers do not charge exorbitantly from the public/purchasers and to harmonize prices of construction material with that of neighboring districts apart from the inclusion of miscellaneous costs not considered during the previous fixation of rates’, the order reads as.
In view of the above, Deputy Commissioner Jammu notified maximum price/sale rates to be charged by lessees/license holders/sellers for the minor minerals.
Furthermore, a complaint cell in the office of ADC (L&O) Jammu is established for receiving the complaints relating to overcharging by these leaseholders/crushers/sellers and forwarding the same to Tehsil Level committees.
