Jammu, Jun 15: NSS volunteers of GDC Jindrah today celebrated Dogra festival “ Raade and Minjraan” with great zeal and enthusiasm in a traditional manner under the headship of Principal Prof. Dr. Raj Shree Dhar. This festival commences on Aashad Sankranti and coincides with “Tamdey” on which Dogras gift vessels, containers, sugar, fruits, sweets, hand fans etc to their daughters. This is a festival of colour and hues which is celebrated for longevity and prosperity of family members. As per tradition, girl students of GDC Jindrah sowed Raade i.e seeds of five different crops like maize, Bajra etc on ground with in dug broken necks of earthern pots. The number of Raadae can be as many as number of family members and one extra raada is inserted to pray to God to add new member to the family. The students take due care of these raade by watering them everyday and colouring them every Sunday by making rangoli using organic colours which signifies growth and multiplication of the family and will pray to God for colourful and joyful life ahead. Girls sing traditional songs, make Dogra quisines like qeeur, rutt etc. |
