5 months on, lane washed away by rains awaits repair | Residents of JDA Colony Bahu Fort accuse contactor of using substandard material | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: The residents of JDA colony Bahu Fort of Ward No 47 have been facing immense hardships as a portion of lane that was washed away due to rains months ago has not been restored till date. Locals said that this gas led many houses getting disconnected. “We are paying the price for a contractor using substandard material in construction of the drain in our locality,” they added. “The entire lane, which is constructed on nallah was washed away due to heavy rains in February this year but after intervention of concerned Corporator, some repairs were made but still a major part of the lane has not been repaired,” said Kritika, a local resident. “We can’t bring our vehicles into our houses as washing away of the lane has created a huge pit and garbage has accumulated in the pit. We had requested the corporator, who had assured us that start work will start soon but till date nothing has been done. As the rainy season is approaching, we fear tough times ahead,” said another resident Raj Kumari. The condition of the lane is very poor due to substandard material used in its construction and no responsibility has been fixed for such poor work, said Nidhika, a student. While venting out his anger, an elderly resident, Jagdev Raj said that there are several issues in this area, which the people have been facing. “Now this dilapidated lane has become a nuisance for us. The situation becomes grim during the rainy season. We appeal to the government to redress their problem at the earliest,” he added. |
