Global Wind Day: J&K’s first-ever wind power project becomes victim of dirty politics | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: As the whole world celeberated June 15 as ‘Global Wind Day’ to explore options for using wind energy as one of the important source of renewalable energy, in J&K, no serious efforts have been made to explore the huge potential of wind energy due to the casual approach of helmsmen. Be it democratically elected government or central regime, all promises of development remained only on the papers. J&K’s first wind energy project is a glaring example of the non-serious attitude of those at the helm of the affairs. This project has become a victim of dirty politics. 534 kanals of land for J&K’s first wind energy project ws identified in Bidda village of Reasi district but nothing has been done so far. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this first-ever such a project in J&K was prepared in the year 2012 but no further progress was made due to casual approach allegedly being adopted by those who were at the helm of affairs. It was due to his efforts that National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), in the year 2012, had found village Bidda feasible for development of wind energy project. In the month of January 2017 the then J&K government had admitted that a potential of 25 MWs of wind power has been assessed at village Bidda in Reasi district out of which 6 MW are being harnessed in the first phase as a pilot project. The land for project measuring approximately 534 kanals has been identified and it belongs to NHPC. Shockingly, the transfer of said land to Science and Technology Department by NHPC is under active consideration and is an advanced stage despite passing of four years. In January 2017 the government had assured that “the work will be initiated on the 6 MW wind project as soon as the land is transferred and it is expected that the project would be executed during the the financial year of 2017-18. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project has been prepared by the National Institute of Wind Energy-a subsidiary of Ministry of New and Renewal Energy (MNRE), Government of India and the project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 50 crore. |
