Early Times Report JAMMU, July 5: Son of the soil and SNA's Yuva Bismillah Khan Awardee Abhishek Bharti featured in Natrang's National Theatre Talk Show, 'Young Voices of Theatre' who shared his motivational views with the global audiences on the facebook page of Natrang Jammu. Director Natrang, Balwant Thakur stated that this talk show is featuring highly acclaimed young voices of theatre spread across the country who have earned a distinctive name for themselves with their outstanding contribution in the field of contemporary Indian Theatre. He also shared that this effort of Natrang has created a constructive dialogue on theatre even during the corona crisis. Born and brought up in Jammu Abhishek, a recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi in direction, is pursuing PhD in Theatre from the Department of Indian Theatre, Punjab University, Chandigarh. Born in June 1984, Abhishek started his theatre career at the age of 12 with the play "Suraj Katl Nahi Hote" directed by his father Kumar A Bharti. He has played different characters in about 25 plays. At the age of 14, he received the Best Actor Award from R K M, Pathankot. At the age of 17, he directed his first play "Hara Hua Yudh" written by Kumar A Bharti and later he did "Good Bye Swami", "Passport", "Pind Kunnain Joadeya", "Janata Pagal Ho Gayi Hai", and "Pachas Saal Baad" etc. He has been in theatre for the last 21 years and has worked with eminent theatre directors like Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, Kumar A Bharti, Kavi Ratan, Bhumikeshwar, Prof. Navendra Behl, Dr. Sunita Dhir, Kewal Dhaliwal, Vasant Josalkar, Prof. Mahendra Kumar and Sanjay Upadhyay. After doing MA Dogri from Jammu University in 2008, he completed Masters in Performing Arts with Gold Medal from Theatre and Television Department, Punjabi University, Patiala. He directed plays like, "Visarjan", "Gagan Damama Bajyo", "Agni Barkha", "The Government Inspector", "X-Reflection", "The Last Colony", "Blood and Beauty", "Macbeth": the Crown of Blood" and won State awards for Best Drama and Best Director for the years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018 from Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages, Jammu and JKFMAC, Srinagar. He has also served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Indian Theatre, Punjab University, Chandigarh for the session 2012-2013.
