Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 5: The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has left to individual alliance partners to take decision on holding meeting with Delimitation Commission (DC), arriving on Tuesday in the Jammu and Kashmir on a four-day visit, to hold parlays with District Election Officers (DEO) and leaders of different political parties.
The leaders of PAGD, an alliance of five mainstream political parties, met last evening at the residence of former Chief minister and chairman of the alliance Dr Farooq Abdullah to discuss the outcome of June 24 All Party Meeting (APM), presided over by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Yes, the visit of Delimitation Commission to Jammu and Kashmir also came up for discussion during the meeting, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said on Monday afternoon.
He said after all the leaders expressed their opinion on the issue, it was decided to left to individual alliance partners to take final call on holding meeting with the commission.
However, he refused to divulge any details about the deliberations on the issue.
The DC headed by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai is arriving Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow on a four day visit to meet leaders of different political parties besides officials.
Earlier, when the DC was set up, National Conference (NC) three Members of Parliament (MP)-Dr Farooq Abdullah, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi and Mohammad Akbar Lone did not participated in the meetings, which was attended by two MPs from Jammu.
The PAGD parties questioned setting up of delimitation commission for Jammu and Kashmir when in the rest of the country such practice will be held in 2026.They alleged that it was being done to benefit BJP by increasing seats in Jammu region so that a Hindu CM is installed in Jammu and Kashmir. This was however, denied by Mr Sinha who said delimitation commission Act was adopted by the Parliament and there is no chance of favouring any party or region.
However, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha clarified that since J&K is now a Union Territory (UT) such commission can be set up.
Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Mr Sinha announced that election will be held only after delimitation.
It was only after APM in New Delhi, the DC decided to invite all leaders, including members of Panchayati Raj System (PRS) to discuss delimtation process besides allow them to present their view points on the issue.
A number of political parties, including Congress and Peoples Conference (PC) have announced to participate in the deliberations with DC.
