“New film policy an insult to Jammu’s talent, potential” | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 24: Artists of the Jammu region are up in arms against the much-touted new film policy announced by the J&K government on August 5 on the occasion of the second anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A. Artists and local film producers of Jammu have reasons to term this film policy as “anti-Jammu” because this region has been completely ignored in the 75-page document prepared by the J&K government to revive Kashmir’s old relations with Bollywood. Addressing a joint press conference artists and film producers of Jammu regrated that the Jammu region is completely ignored by those who were involved in formulating this policy. “Jammu has huge potential of shooting spots but unfortunately all potential spots have been ignored in the document”, one of the artists said and pointed out that a new film policy was formulated only to promote Kashmir Valley at the cost of the Jammu region. After the launching of the new film policy, people associated with film production and acting in the Jammu region feel betrayed and ignored by those at the helm of the affairs. In the 75-page documents shooting spots of Jammu are ignored. It appears that the document is Kashmir centric and there is mention of Jammu only for “formality sake’ even though the Jammu region has huge potential of shooting. Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Bani Basholi, Poonch and Rajouri, and many other areas are the best destinations for shooting but the same are ignored by policymakers. On August 5, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in presence of Bollywood star Aamir Khan and filmmaker Raj Kumar Hirani had announced a new film policy and the aim of this policy is to rejuvenate the bonding between Bollywood and Kashmir. It was mentioned in the document that Kashmir used to be the favourite destination of filmmakers before violence engulfed the region at the beginning of the 1990s. Who can forget films like Kashmir ki Kali, Junglee, Roti, Bobby? A hut in Gulmarg is still known as Bobby hut after the film turned a rage in the 1970s. Shockingly no prominence was given to Bhaderwah while the shooting of famous movie Noorie was held. |
