Admin delaying holiday announcement, Jammu angry | Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Undue delay in announcing the holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh has triggered outrage in Jammu. People have started believing that Union Territory Administration is not interested in honouring the aspirations of the people of Jammu region. Although the demand is being continuously raised from various platforms, the administration seems reluctant in declaring a holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday on September 23. “Maharaja Hari Singh has played a great role in establishing the legacy of Dogras across J&K. People’s friendly decisions taken by him helped in changing the destiny of the masses of the erstwhile princely state,” said Naresh Choudhary and Surinder Singh. They further said that after ascending to the throne of Jammu and Kashmir in 1925 he made primary education compulsory in the state. He introduced laws prohibiting child marriage, and opened places of worship to the low castes. “We are proud of our late Maharaja, who took bold decisions, to keep the legacy of Dogras alive. The government should announce a holiday on his birthday to honour him and to address the aspirations of Dogras,” asserted Vasu Dev Singh, Rajinder Singh and Vishal Singh. They further maintained that Maharaja Hari Singh was one of the far-sighted and progressive rulers in India. The sentiments of J&K people are associated with Maharaja Hari Singh. UT Administration should clear its stand as several birthdays have passed but nothing has been done by the administration till date. Although several protests were held to raise their demand by social, political and other organisations for the demand but administration has failed to respect the sentiments of J&K and especially Jammu people and betrayed the huge mandate given to BJP in the Centre. |
