Reemploying Retired Engineers

The Rural Development Department (RDD) has decided to reemploy the retired engineers for various jobs. It’s a strange decision and has evoked concern from the jobless engineers who are waiting to get adjusted. Many of them are at the verge of crossing the upper age limit.
Several serving RDD engineers on Monday observed a pen down strike against the decision of the government to re-engage the retired employees. If the government goes ahead with its proposed rehabilitation plan, it will shrink the opportunities for the new entrants and will also lead to the serving employees in the department remaining stagnant at one place.
Since the day Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has taken over the reins of the country, he has emphasized on empowering youth. The decision to re-engage the retired engineers is against the vision of PM Modi.
Netizens have also reacted sharply to the decision to re-engage the retired engineers. They have urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to revoke the order as passout students from NIT’S , IUST, and other College are waiting for Job “@manojsinha_ Ji,Please revoke this decision and don’t dust hopes of students who have opted Engineering,” reads a viral post on the social media.
The practice to re-engage the retired employees was common during the erstwhile political regimes and such decisions of the political rulers were opposed by the common people every now and then. The trends that were common in the former regimes shouldn’t return as these were the major causes of alienation as the rulers never used to pay much heed towards the genuine concerns of the people.
After J&K’s transition into a Union Territory many new posts have been advertised and various schemes have been announced to provide job opportunities to the youth. People to an extent have appreciated the efforts of the government but the order to re-engage the retired officials has evoked resentment.
There are many issues which the present dispensation has to address. It needs to focus on the problems confronting a common man rather than getting caught in the controversies, which can malign the image of the administration. The helmsmen are well aware about the reasons that led to turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir. Somehow J&K is coming out of the turbulence and dividends need to reach a common man and not only a particular section of the society.
