Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 5: Despite Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assuring the youth that the new measures being taken by the government are aimed at providing them with multiple opportunities in different fields, J&K youth are finding it hard to hold even what they had before the revocation of Article 370.
On Tuesday students under the banner of J&K Medical Students Association staged a protest against the decision of J&K administration to opt for All India Quota (AIQ) in medical seats.
Doctors told reporters here that In J&K there are 1100 PG seats for 1600 students and out of every three students one gets selected for the post graduation. “Now, the government is saying that it will put 100% seats of SKIMS and 50% seats of Government Medical College Srinagar and Jammu in AIQ quota. That means out of 1100 seats we will be left with just 186 and for open merit, only 100 seats will be left for the open merit for J&K students. This will benefi

students from other parts of the country as they will come to J&K complete specialization and move back to their own states. If we get selected in another state after completing specialization we will have to serve there till we complete the contract there. In the first place getting selected in other states will be difficult as the facilities provided to us are not at par with other places and we are being told that only 10% reservation will be given to J&K students.”
They said, “The government has deferred the decision by one year but we want the proposal to be dropped. If the administration goes ahead it will shatter our dreams to attain specialization.”
The doctors said that when Article 370 was revoked, Jammu people celebrated the move and stood by the government. “But in return we are being traumatized.”
“The administration has also brought the doctors on the streets and we will continue our protests till our demands are met,” they said.
