UNESCO report paints grim picture of J&K schools | '2230 institutions run by lone teacher, 6000 have no road connectivity' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 18: UNESCO report on the government schools in Jammu and Kashmir has picked up many holes in the prevailing education system in the Union Territory. According to the UNESCO report 29708 schools were analyzed across J&K of which 2230 schools are run by only one teacher and among these 95% schools are in rural areas. The report stated that 6000 schools have no road connectivity, 1632 schools have vacancies but these haven't been filled. Nearly 36% of schools don't have library facilities. Out of 29708 schools only 3500 had internet facilities. Among one lakh, seventy five thousand teachers employed in these government schools only 47% are females. Nearly 36% of schools don't have electricity, 95% institutions have no IT labs and 44% don't have good classrooms. But the report has stated that most of the schools have drinking water and toilet facilities. |
