Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 18: Killing of two non-local laborers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has now triggered exodus of Migrant Laborers from Kashmir Valley.
On Monday, hundreds of non-local laborers along with small kids and females were spotted moving towards Nowgam Railway Station in Srinagar.
The migrant laborers told the media that killing of laborers sacred them and hence decided to move out of Kashmir.
“We didn’t fear when Burhan was killed. Even we didn’t fear when Article 370 was removed as no laborer was targeted or killed but this time it is too difficult for us to stay here,” Migrant workers told ET.
Mohd Ahsan, a Bihar resident, said since the last twelve (12) years they haven't experienced such a situation.
“Our family members are repeatedly calling us and telling us to come back,” he said, adding local administration and Police officials were kind and helpful.
They also praised the local population for helping them in difficult situations.
Wanpoh area in Kulgam district also looked deserted as most of the non-local laborers left the area. Those workers who were still putting up the area were also seen meeting their contractors and agents.
At Wanpoh, few among the migrant workers told ET that they came to know about the incident only in the morning. “It is very scary and we will also go back to Bihar,” they said.
To contain the target killings in Kashmir, security forces have stepped up the security measures and intensified frisking. Internet has also been shut in a few areas of Srinagar and South Kashmir.
At multiple locations across Kashmir, migrant workers have been shifted to safer places including government schools placed near security establishments.
Militants gunned down two labourers from Bihar and injured another after barging into their accommodation in Wanpoh Kulgam. This was the third terror attack on non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, a street vendor from Bihar and a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh were shot dead by terrorists on Saturday evening. The United Liberation Front, a front of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the gruesome killings of the two laborers from Bihar.
Several political parties and politicians in Kashmir condemned the killing of non-local laborers in Kashmir.
