Jammu, Oct 18: Dubai has signed an accord to build infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, the government said on Monday. The memorandum of understanding by Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates, is the first investment agreement by a foreign government in the region, following the scrapping of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and division of the state into two Union Territories. The J&K government said the agreement will see Dubai building infrastructure including industrial parks, IT towers, multi-purpose towers, logistics centres, a medical college and a speciality hospital. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The works for which the J&K Government has signed MoU with Dubai are not anything extraordinary. Had the administration asked the locals to come forward and do these works, they would have easily done it.” He said, “Jammu based business firms have dealt with many such projects in the past and have delivered successfully. There is no harm in foreign companies venturing into J&K but the locals need to be given a chance so that they too can prove their mettle and get an opportunity to consolidate their businesses.” |
