Non-locals start moving out of ‘Mini Bihar’ in South Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Wanpoh (Kulgam), Oct 18: Wanpoh village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district known as “Mini Bihar” is all set for desertion after the killings of Raja Reshi Dev and Jogindar Reshi Dev, both residents of Bihar on Sunday evening by the militants. According to the sources, the gunmen had collected complete information of their targets before carrying out the killings. Both the labourers were shot dead in their rented accommodation while their other colleague, Chun Chun Reshi Das, sustained firearms injuries in the attack. A day after the attack, non-locals putting up at Wanpoh, have decided to return to their native villages as they fear that if they stay back it would mean losing their lives. “I have been staying in this village for the past 25-years. I sell tea and never faced any problems. But during the last few days the situation has taken an ugly turn and there is no other option left other than returning to Bihar,” said a vendor. A local contractor said that they have been working with the people from Bihar for the past 25-years and more than 1000 Kashmiri families are directly or indirectly connected with them. “We are feeling sad for them. They are our hands and eyes but some elements are out to snatch them,” he added. Another non-local said that if the Biharis in Wanpoh don’t have money to pay the fare, they can approach the local union and take it from them. “Many of us have been living here for the past 15-years, but we can’t risk our lives. We have to move out as the target killings have created a scare. If we stay here, we don’t know who will be the next target,” he added. |
