Double Standards

Jammu and Kashmir administration is operating in a strange manner. It’s allowing political rallies, other gatherings and official functions but has been continuously denying permission to religious events.
For the second successive year, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir denied permission for Dusshsera celebrations citing COVID-19 as the reason.
One can understand that the pandemic has hit everyone hard and it’s a genuine concern but the government needs to apply the same yardstick for all the events. It has to follow what it’s preaching.
The COVID-19 cases are on decline across the Union Territory but the experts have been reiterating that the guard cannot be lowered and SOPs have to be followed in letter and spirit.
The helmsmen seem to be of the opinion that they can do nothing wrong and their orders are final. But during the past two years they have issued many arbitrary orders which have created resentment among the people.
Jammu businessmen are up in arms against the administration as they have been hit hard from all the sides. Be it scrapping of Darbar Move, handing over mining contracts to non-locals, opening retail stores of multinational companies or other things.
These decisions have disturbed smooth business functions in the Jammu region. Despite natives making fervent appeals no one seems to be ready to listen to them.
As the things are becoming difficult the natives are mulling to move out of Jammu to other states to set up their businesses so that they can live in peace.
It seems that the helmsmen need to be told that they cannot push the natives to the brink.
Someone needs to tell them that they have to start thinking rationally.
If religious gatherings cannot be permitted then the same should hold true for political gatherings and official functions. The Covid threat is not selective. It’s for all.
Neither the politicians nor the officials are exempted from it. The J&K administration should stop issuing anti-people diktats so that people can get a chance to restart their lives. The COVID-19 pandemic has already broken the back of Jammuties, along with that orders that are issued every now and then have made their lives miserable.
People are neither able to discharge their religious obligations nor are they being allowed to earn their livelihood in a decent way. Is this the change J&K had been promised?
