Awareness programme on Antimicrobial Resistance begins | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Nov 18: The Health Department Kotranka began a week long awareness programme on Antimicrobial Resistance. World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is celebrated from 18-24 November every year. The 2021 theme is Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance. It calls on health stakeholders, policymakers, health care providers, and the general public to be Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Champions. As per the directions of Dr Renu Sharma, Director Health and Dr Shamim Bhatti, CMO Rajouri today marks the start of world antimicrobial awareness week. Speaking during the event organized at CHC Kandi Dr Iqbal Malik, BMO said that we can all play our part. AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites (microbes) no longer respond to medicines, making common infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. Dr Farooq Mir, Medical Officer, said that misuse and overuse of antimicrobials are main drivers in the development of drug-resistant infections. Dr Ruksana Jabeen and Dr Zia ul Haq shared their valuable points on how the common public can also help. They advised the public to seek medical advice from professional health practitioners, stop self-medication and complete the course of antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. In addition to the event at CHC Kandi, all ZMOs organized awareness events at their respective zonal health institutions. Health staff of Sub-Centres was given detailed lectures on AMR and how we can help prevent it. Judicious use of antibiotics is very important otherwise time may come where they will be ineffective. Large numbers of health staff and the general public attended the event. Mohd Ayoub Lone, Community Health Officer Kandi gave vote of thanks to the participants. |
