Scrap material used to prepare tar at Hot Mix Plant, photo goes viral | | | ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Nov 18: In a shocking exposure it has come to fore that a contractor engaged in laying PMGSY roads in Udhampur district is using scrap material at a Hot Mix Plant owned by him to prepare tar mixed gravel for constructing the roads photo of which goes viral on social media. A renowned contractor in Udhampur district engaged in different government works particularly construction of PMGSY roads has purchased the scrapped material at a meager amount of about Rs 500 per trolley or tipper from ongoing repairing works of National Highway road and sell it back after processing at his Hot Mix Plant for thousands. Surprisingly, the maximum material of this contractor is used in government works such as PMGSY roads," a social activist claimed on social media. A retired civil engineer of the rank of Executive Engineer when contacted said that the scrap generated from the roads while digging them for repair in no way remains fit for reuse even after processing the same in the Hot Mix Plant. An expert in road works informed that if such things continue then the dream project of Government of India to connect every village of the country with roads will be badly affected as the roads made by such material will have a very short life. Another activist said that the authorities should check the materials before using it in vital infrastructures for development and appropriate action should be taken against violators. |
