Overcast sky in Kashmir, Ladakh keep mercury in check | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 18: The cold conditions in Kashmir Valley on Thursday showed slight improvement as temperatures were recorded above normal at most places due to an overcast night sky. After witnessing the season’s coldest night a day ago, the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 2.1 degrees Celsius against the minus 1.5 degrees Celsius. With the sudden improvement in temperature throughout the valley, there was fog reported from many areas. Weather is most likely to remain dry for the next five days till November 23, the Meteorological Department said, and added there would be light snow over extreme north of Kashmir during November 24 night. Tourist resort of Pahalgam which recorded minus 4.7 degrees Celsius for the past two days was at minus 0.5 on Thursday. Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway also showed improvement in night temperatures. It recorded a minimum of 0.4 degree Celsius against the minus 2.2 on previous day. Similarly at Kokernag it was 0.7 degree Celsius against the minus 1 C a day ago. The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir showed one degree improvement recording minus 1 degree Celsius. In frontier Kashmir district Kupwara, it was 2.0 degrees Celsius against the minus 2 the previous day showing four degrees improvement, the MeT office said. Drass, Leh and Kargil in Ladakh Union Territory also showed improvement in night temperature due to cloudy sky. Drass recorded minus 5 degrees celsius today, an 8 degree improvement in the night temperature. Similarly in Leh it was minus 6.4 degrees and Kargil minus 5.9 degrees showing several degrees improvement. It was minus 13, minus 10.7 and minus 8.1 recorded in Drass, Leh and Kargil on Wednesday. |
