EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 14: A General Body Meeting of Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) was held in the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu where several issues being faced by the University teachers were discussed.
The teachers raised objections to the fact that they are getting 5.1% rate of interest for their GP Fund whereas the state government employees are getting 7.1%. Prof Pankaj Srivastava, President of the Association, assured the house that every possible step will be taken by the association so that the rate of interest for GP Fund of the teachers be raised from 5.1% to 7.1%. It was also resolved unanimously that the promotion of Assistant Professors from lower to the higher stage be done as per the UGC guideline i.e. without the personal appearance of the candidate. It was impressed upon by the members of JUTA that all the process with regard to the promotions of teachers be completed in a time bound manner under UGC regulations. It was resolved that the President and his team will put pressure on the administration to clear all the pending cases for promotion under career advancement scheme as soon as possible ‘zero pendency’ will be achieved within six months.
The matter related to the health insurance of the teachers was also on priority and various options were explored in this regards. The accumulation of earned leave for 300 days and enhancement of superannuation age for University Teachers to 65 years as per UGC statutes was also discussed in the meeting.
The house suggested that the matters related to teachers be presented before the office of Lieutenant General, Manoj Sinha, the Chancellor of the University, for early redressal. The meeting was conducted by Dr Ravinder Singh, Department of English, General Secretary of JUTA and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Manoj Bhatt, Department of Economics who is the Vice-President of the Association. The joint secretary, JUTA Dr Yudhvir Singh from the Department of Geology and Dr Sushanta Panda, Treasurer, JUTA from the Department of Education were also present in the meeting.
