Amid spike in attacks, new militant outfit ‘Kashmir Tigers’ surfaces | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 14: Amid a deadly rise in attacks on security forces and civilians in Kashmir, a new militant outfit “Kashmir Tigers” has surfaced in the valley putting the government forces on tenterhooks. A senior official of the Jammu and Kashmir Police told Early Times that the police department have credible inputs that the recent attack on police was carried out by “Kashmir Tigers”, a newly founded outfit, which is an offshoot of the Jaish. Official sources said the Jaish has come up with the “shell outfit” in the name of “Kashmir Tigers only to mislead the international community over its terror designs.” According to the observers, the Jaish has been banned in Pakistan since 2002, but resurfaced under other names, like the latest one being the Kashmir Tigers “to keep the pot boiling.” The Resistance Front or TRF is another such outfit, which was established by the Pakistan, after the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019. A senior official said the intelligence agencies got to know about the “Kashmir Tigers” after it claimed responsibility of the attack on police vehicle near Zewan Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar on December 13. As per the police, three terrorists had fired indiscriminately upon a police vehicle carrying police personnel of 9th Battalion near Zewan Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar. The police party were coming back to their campus after finishing their duties. Although the fire was retaliated however taking advantage of darkness the terrorists managed to escape from the spot. In this terror incident 14 police personnel were injured and were shifted to hospital for treatment. Among the injured personnel, ASI Ghulam Hassan & SgCT Safique Ali succumbed to their injuries and attained martyrdom, whereas the condition of other injured personnel was stated to be stable. Third cop succumbed to injuries on December 14. In a police handout the IGP confirmed that the credible sources revealed that the attack was carried by “Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of JeM.” |
