KSS seeks political reservation for Community in Kashmir, Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Kashmir Sikh Sangat (KSS) has hailed the decision of Delimitation Commission that one floating seat of state Assembly on the pattern of Sikkim and Pondicherry be reserved for Kashmiri Pandits. The Commission has provided an opportunity to all the stake holders to put forth their claims and suggestions. KSS which represents the micro-minority Sikh community of valley strongly pleaded the case for reservation of at least one seat each from Kashmir and Jammu regions for Sikh community to elect their representatives to the law making forums so that basic issue of the community which remained unattended for decades can be resolved. Sikh community of Kashmir valley has suffered a lot due to lack of political representation. Our habita tion is haphazardly settle in valley and are not in position to elect our representatives. To mitigate this issue of Sikh community, the Maharaja of erstwhile state of the J&K on recommendations of “Galancy Commission” in 1932 nominated one member of Sikh community each from Kashmir and Jammu regions to the Praja Parishad (Now Legislative Assembly) and this practice continued even after independence but has been discontinued by the political amalgamation of the state. Once again, Kashmir Sikh Sangat advocated the demand for reservation of at least one seat each from Kashmir and Jammu regions for Sikh community. It is also suggested that Sikh community living in whole of Union Territory may be notified as vote bank for the reserved seats of Sikh community. This way our long pending demand can be resolved and community be made a part of democratic political system of state for equitable development of all sections of the society.
