KVK Reasi imparts training on fruit and vegetable processing

REASI, Jan 4: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development in Fruit and Vegetable Processing" here at KVK, Reasi campus which was attended by a number of young women farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof JP Sharma and guidance of Director Extension, Dr SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu.
Dr Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the objectives of the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project and stressed on the involvement of rural youths in agriculture. He said that the value additional in seasonal fruits and vegetables can help to generate more income and employment among the rural women of hilly areas. He encouraged the participants for the processing of fruits and vegetables by which they can generate more money and improve their socio-economic conditions.
Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist discussed the benefits of processed agro-products and demonstrated the scientific techniques of processing of fruits and vegetables. He guided the participants in the preparation of aonla candy, morabba, juice etc. by elaborating their scientific preparation. He also guided the participants on the ingredients used in the value added products of fruits and vegetables to increase their shelf life. He stressed on the commercial level value addition in fruit and vegetables for extra income generation among the rural women of hilly areas. During the programme, women farmers asked certain quarries which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and Mohd Iqbal and concluded by Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi with formal vote of thanks.
