Tarigami dubs real-estate summit as “red herring” | Who will go to these malls since people don’t have money? | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 4: Chiding the Jammu & Kashmir government for organizing the much-touted first-ever real-estate summit in Jammu, spokesperson of Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and leader of the CPI (M), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami opined such events are not going to solve basic problems of the people. “I can only say such events are nothing but red herring”, Tarigami said and argued that neither jobs would be created nor it will boost economic development in Jammu & Kashmir. “How can investment in real-estate create jobs for the unemployed youth of Jammu?” he asked and pointed out that there is already a big slump in the real-estate business in other parts of the country. “I don’t know how the business can boost economic growth in J&K”, he said. When his attention was drawn towards the announcement of the government that Dubai-based firm- Emaar Properties will develop a shopping mall in Srinagar, Tarigami argued that without purchasing power of the people such investment would be futile. “Who will go to these malls when people don’t have money in their pockets?”, he said and pointed out that business in Jammu is passing through crucial time because people don’t have purchasing power. |
