Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 20: GGM Science College organized an international lecture (online) on “Printed and Flexible Electronics” delivered by eminent ecientist and Ex-Chief Scientist of NASA, Ames Research Center, California, USA, Dr. Meyya Mayyappan. Dr.Ravender Kumar Tickoo, Principal of the college spoke about the rapid emergence of the Internet of Things era that has led to increased research activities in the area of printed and flexible electronics. Dr. Tickoo emphasized on recent developments on nano-materials based ink development and characterization, printing tool and process development to obtaining desirable characteristics of printed conductors, semiconductors, dielectrics and other materials, and demonstration of various printing applications on a wide variety of flexible substrates including paper, plastics and textiles. This talk provided an overview of the above topics and applications including gas sensors, biosensors, UV and other radiation detectors, super capacitors, tribo-electric nano-generators (TENGs), memory devices and others. Dr. Meyya Meyyappan recently retired from NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley after serving as Chief Scientist for Exploration Technology and Director of the Center for Nanotechnology. He is currently an Honorary Professor at IIT-Guwahati, India and Distinguished Visiting Professor at POSTECH, Pohang, South Korea. He is a Fellow of IEEE, AVS), ECS,MRS), ASME, AIChE, and National Academy of Inventors. He is currently the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) Distinguished Lecturer, and he served as the Distinguished Lecturer on Nanotechnology for both the IEEE Nanotechnology Council. For his educational contributions, he has received: Outstanding Recognition Award from the NASA Office of Education; the Engineer of the Year Award (2004) by the San Francisco Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics. More than 300 participants including college/university faculty and students from Jammu and Kashmir, USA, UK and Australia registered and attended his lecture. Dr. Meyyappan assured to support the young researchers through his vast knowledge and experiences. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head Department of Electronics moderated the lecture and organized the Q&A session following the lecture, and Ms Meena Gupta, Assistant Professor in Electronics offered the vote of thanks to speakers and participants. |
