Unplanned Jmu-Sgr highway cutting puts lives of Banihal residents at stake | Admin turns its back towards people, construction company least botheredAdmin turns its back towards people, construction company least bothered | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20: Unplanned cutting of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway triggered massive protest on Thursday as the residents accused the construction company and the government of dislocating them without providing them with alternate accommodation. Residents while talking to Early Times said, “The work to expand the highway was given to unregistered companies which do not possess the requisite skills and machinery to carry out the cutting. This has led to many people getting dislocated.” They said, “Houses have developed cracks and mountains have become loose. We are living under constant fear of death. One landslide can kill many of us. The cutting has been carried out in a very haphazard manner.” Protesters said, “The company has failed to install the backwall. The administration needs to take note of our plight. We are struggling and no one seems bothered. Officials had assured us that our interests will be protected but we have been left to fend on our own.” |
