Kishtwar, Jan 19: In major embarrassment for the government of Jammu and Kashmir, Chairperson District Development Council Kishtwar Pooja Thakur along with DDC member Palmar/Dool Tahir Masood is sitting on late night Dharna against the power project management at Dangdoru Dachhan over denial of jobs to local unemployed youths and the project affected families. As per the details available with Early Times, DDC Chairperson rush to Dangdoru some 55 KM from Kishtwar and sits on Dharna since morning which is still continue till last reports came.
This is the 2nd consecutive day today that DDC Chairperson Kishtwar- A head of the District Developmental Council- A constitutional body is sitting on Dharna over government and administration failure in absorbing the local unemployed youths in under construction power projects including 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power projects whose construction is at advance stage following stand off between the project management and the elected representatives.
The DDC Chairperson and over a dozen people including Sarpanches had reportedly stop the construction work at project side and threaten that mass agitation will be started against these project management if they fail to accommodate the local people.
Speaking on this occasion— DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur said that it has become a routine at her office that local unemployed youths are approaching him with the complaint that they are being denied jobs by the project management and instead appointing the outsiders which is grave injustice with the local unemployed youths.
“They (CVPP) had conducted the interviews for vacant Engineering posts- but fail to come up with a list even after two months while they promise to absorb the locals and assured that the list will be made public within a weeks time” said Mrs Thakur.
She said that she had been chosen to speak for the people of Kishtwar District and can’t watch the injustice being done with the local unemployed youths as mute spectators.
She said that keeping in view of the COVID restrictions in place, she had ask the people not to assemble at project site since she has enough will power and determination to fight for the cause of the local people without putting their lives to risk due to COVID 19.
She said that she is sitting on Dharna since last two days despite being as a women, but rued that no one administration or from the project management visit the spot to address the genuine issues of the people.
“We have stop the work- if any one suffers on account of financial losses- the blame should be made on the administration as well as on the management who is turning deaf ear and blind eye towards the sufferings and plight of local unemployed youths” said Mrs Thakur.
Tahir Masood, DDC member said that same thing is being done at project site at Dool added that due to these projects our environment is at huge risk - but despite all this over youths are not getting jobs in these power projects.
“Our youths had studied engineering from reputed colleges of India- Parents sent them for Engineering course to these reputed colleges with the eye on upcoming power projects- where they go if project management turn them away” said Tahir Masood.
He and Mrs Thakur warn the project management and their hanky middleman to stop playing with the future of local unemployed youths otherwise the storm within the locals could swept them away.
They also rued delay in compensation to the power project affected families beside also in delay with regard to implementation of the RR plan.
They urged upon the government to look into the matter and seek intervention of the LG in addressing the public welfare issues pertaining to project affected families as well as the concern of local unemployed youths.
