Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 7: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Director Law Enforcement, Mission Director- National Bamboo Mission (NBM) BD Sharma in his officer chamber today to discuss the proposed action plan under the NBM for the financial year 2022-23. Various Departments viz Agriculture Department Jammu/Srinagar, Handicraft and Handloom Jammu, SKUAST-Jammu/Kashmir, Forest Department etc. participated in the meeting. The Kashmir based officers participated in the meeting through Video Conference. An Action Plan to the tune of Rs. 10 crores proposed for financial year 2022-23 was discussed in detail. Various activities such as establishment of Tissue Culture labs, Raising of Bamboo Nurseries, Area expansion of Bamboo cultivation, Skill development and awareness campaign, Bamboo Processing Units etc, was discussed at length. During the meeting Mission Director emphasized on cultivation on Bamboo Varieties which having commercial utilization for Furniture making, Paper Mills, Basket & Mats making, incense stick making & Bamboo Shoot Processing, Agriculture Implements and other uses. The Mission Director apprised all the participants in the meeting that an area about 1500 ha shall be brought under bamboo cultivation during next year.
