Transforming J&K: Authorities ignore CMIE figures to hide failures in generation jobs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 7: Amid brewing anger among all sections of the society, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday issued an official handout in which it was claimed that the Union Territory excelled in various fields. The authorities have quoted some surveys to give an impression that the J&K has witnessed improvement on several fronts. But the J&K government has intentionally and deliberately ignored figures of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) figures which have revealed J&K has a 22.2 percent unemployment rate, which was even higher than the national level unemployment rate of 7.1 percent recorded across India in October and November in 2021. The higher unemployment rate in J&K is a cause of concern as there seems to be no improvement in the job scenario in the Union Territory. In comparison to September 2021 the unemployment rate has further increased. For September, CMIE has pegged the unemployment rate at 21.6 percent which went up to 22.2 percent. The unemployment rates are produced by CMIE using its Consumer Pyramids Household Survey machinery. CMIE has pegged India’s unemployment rate at 7.1 percent which means J&K has a much higher unemployment rate than the national average. The rising unemployment rate in J&K continues to be a lingering problem for the youth who are forced to run after government jobs in absence of a strong private sector in J&K. Though the government claims that outside investments worth Rs 50,000 crore will come to UT, it is yet to have any impact on the ground. The government, however, claimed that the year 2021 witnessed tremendous improvement in the governance standards of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and testimony of the fact is the acknowledgment by different surveys that were conducted by various agencies last year. |
