Kashmir witnesses snow, rains | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The upper catchments of the Kashmir Valley including the ski resort Gulmarg got snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains on Monday, disrupting normal life. The Meteorological Department forecast light to moderate rain and snow at scattered places over Jammu and Kashmir and widespread light to moderate rain, snow and traces in the next 24 hours. From March 8 to 13, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with chances of occasional light rain and snow over the higher reaches. On Monday morning, it was still snowing in Gulmarg in Baramulla district. Snow also fell on Gurez in Bandipora district and Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Ladakh highway. Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains since early Monday, triggering cold wave conditions and disrupting normal life. The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was 7.3 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg recorded minus 1.6 degree Celsius and received 4.6 mm of rain and 5 cm of snow. The frontier district of Kupwara had a low of 4.6 degree Celsius. The temperature in Pahalgam was 4.6 degrees Celsius, in Kokernag 1.9 degrees and in Qazigund 6.7 degrees. |
