GDC Chenani celebrates World Water Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 22: GDC Chenani, under the aegis of its Science Club, NSS unit-PRAYATNA & Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav showcased a documentary film and delivered talks to the students on 22nd of March 2022 to commemorate the "World Water Day" . The documentary entitled 'OUR DRINKING WATER' based on the theme, 'Valuing water' helped to generate the sense of responsibility among the students to value the scarcity of drinking water. As the College is already abreast with the theme of saving our surface and groundwater resources by way of the DST sponsored Research Project with the active involvement of students under the Mass Awareness Program on 'Save Devika', today's program added impetus to already ongoing programs on the mission. The programme was introduced by the Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna who exhorted about the retreating of glaciers and arising global warming. She also laid emphasis on the ground water which is though invisible but with an visible impact everywhere. Dr. Mohd. Yousuf Rather further detailed about the documentary and opined that life would not be possible without groundwater. Most arid areas of the world depend entirely on groundwater. Groundwater supplies a large proportion of the water we use for drinking, sanitation, food production and industrial processes. He further exhorted that it is also critically important to the healthy functioning of ecosystems, such as wetlands and rivers. The programme was concluded by Ms. Shagufta Saleem focussing on the UN world water report, 2022 that gives insight on main trends concerning the state, use and management of freshwater and sanitation. The programme was organised by Ms. Shagufta Saleem and Dr. Mohd. Yousuf Rather. |
