Parents have to act as role models
3/23/2022 12:22:56 AM

Schools have reopened and children are back to classes. Now, it’s the duty of the parents to reduce the screen time of their wards in their homes. For the past two years generation remained glued to various online games and bad habits have set in.
The need of the hour is to cut down the screen time and it can be done by telling the children how sedentary activities affect their overall health. Parents need to talk to them about things they can do to be healthier.
They need to be told that remaining glued to the mobile phones would turn them lazy as the games they play on phones are completely different from the real world.
Many children have developed a habit of watching videos while eating. This needs to be controlled.
If the parents don’t intervene a time will come when the children won’t be able to eat anything without watching a video on phone.
Besides watching videos the children have developed a habit of playing games on their mobile phones for hours together.
Surveys have revealed that many computer games need focus and concentration and it leads to children getting too involved.
In some games which elucidate the kind of threat they present to society. Real-world penalties in these games include a reduction in social life and the wrath of the player’s families. These games take a lot of concentration as some involve teamwork.
Parents are worried on many counts about these games, some related to violence which causes behavioral changes as a consequence. They are also worried, truly so, that there is excessive screen time with learning impairment and behavioral issues in children.
Amid the situation, there are some who believe that these games create wrong precedents and breed violent thoughts and criminal behavior in young minds.
The parents have to act as role models and there is a need to decrease screen time by them also. One may find it difficult to start with but parents need to challenge the routines which have set bad precedents of excessive screen-time activities. Parents need to find things to do to get moving and burning energy. They have to help their children to overcome their sedentary lifestyles.
