Revive Accountability Commission to probe scams of ex-ministers, MLAs: Harsh | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 3: While majority of the ministers and MLAs belonging to the opposition parties faced Accountability Commission (AC) with respect to the complaints and charges levelled against them, it's the BJP leaders alone who seem to have been granted immunity from all charge of corruption against them with AC having been abolished and other vigilante organizations having surrendered before them. This was stated by Harsh Dev Singh former minister seeking revival of AC or constitution of commission of Inquiry (COI) to probe the scams of such tainted ministers and MLAs. He said that while some leaders were exonerated by the AC, several others were indicted but had obtained stay orders from courts which needed to be vacated. The pertinent question however remained that why the Accountability Commission was abolished when it came to fixing the accountability of saffron leaders and trying them for omissions and commissions, asserted Singh. Pointing towards the repeated censuring of anti graft organizations by the Supreme Court, Singh said that corruption could never be curbed until and unless the rulers and helmsmen stopped patronizing the corrupt. He said that with ruling parties interfering in the functioning of such vigilante bodies and dictating terms to them, it was impossible to check the menace of corruption which had become all pervasive with their support. Describing PM Modi's slogan of accountability and transparency as an eye wash and window-dressing for the gullible, Singh said that even J&K had several BJP Ministers MPs and MLAs who were accused of real estate scams, disproportionate assets and money laundering with the central and state unit of BJP failing to give any convincing clarification despite public outrage. He said that several BJP Ministers and leaders have been reported to have created huge assets, taken loan from J&K Bank amounting to several crores and got it declared NPA besides having defied norms and procedures and violated the defence acts while constructing un-authorized structures. He said that even during demonetization a Minster's vehicle was widely reported to have been apprehended while carrying huge illegal cash for conversion into new currency notes. "Similarly another Minister's spouse was reported to have been video-graphed while converting dirty cash into gold and still another Minister accused of having taken several crores as bribe for granting permission for construction of private apartments in an environmentally fragile area of Jammu. Even the erstwhile governor of J&K had pointed towards huge wealth accumulated by several corrupt politicians and construction of palatial bungalows by them in state, outside state and even abroad. He had further referred to the allotment of a power project by PDD receiving a kickback of Rs 100 crore by enhancing its rate by 35%," he said. Urging upon the Lt Governor to take cognizance of all reports of scams and frauds committed by these powerful politicians, Singh said that any delay in revival of Accountability commission would further erode the reputation of the present regime. |
