J&K Budget 2022-23: Weaker sections feel cheated; betrayed by LG regime | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2: Notwithstanding tall claims of the Jammu and Kashmir government that social and tribal welfare gain momentum in the budget, weaker sections especially Other Backward Classes (OBCs) feel cheated and betrayed by the incumbent regime. In its official handout issued on Saturday, the J&K government listed some schemes for which funds are allocated in the budget 2022-23 but authorities have failed to highlight the amount allocated for the upliftment of OBCs and Scheduled Castes of the Union Territory. Not even a single word has been mentioned about the setting up of hostels for OBCs, scholarships for OBCs and the amount allocated for schemes meant exclusively for OBCs. Not only OBCs have been neglected in welfare schemes, these marginalized sections of society is also ignored in giving constitutional and legal rights. After the abrogation of Article 370, the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) - who were elated on August 5, 2019, have reasons to feel ‘cheated’ as after passing of one year nothing concrete has been done to end their woes. There is a feeling among OBCs that they were used by the government while defending abrogation of Article 370 but in reality J&K BJP leaders be-fooled them with one way or another. Since August 5, OBCs were hoping that the administration will remove injustice with the OBCs but again the government has betrayed us by not implementing the Mandal Commission report in J&K. It was promised that after the abrogation of Article 370, OBCs of J&K would get 27 percent reservation like other parts of the country but the present government, allegedly due to their anti-weaker section mindset, has again backstabbed OBCs. The majority of the OBCs leaders have no faith in the Backward Classes Commission constituted by the government because these leaders observed that the panel has shown a casual approach in restoring constitutional rights to OBCs. |
