Sandeep wins 20km walking event | | | agencies RANCHI, Apr 16: Olympian Sandeep Kumar defended his Indian Open Race Walking Competition title, winning the gold with a timing of 1:22:05:00 in the men's 20 km event here on Saturday. Akshdeep Singh (1:23:14.00) and Paramjeet Singh Bisht (1:23:27.00) finished second and third respectively. U-20 world athletics championships silver medallist Amit Khatri finished fourth with a timing of 1:23:42.00. With his win, Sandeep met the Athletics Federation of India's (AFI) qualification mark for the Commonwealth Games. However, he missed to beat the AFI entry standards for the Asian Games by five seconds. In the women's category, Ravina won the gold clocking 1:31:52.00. Tokyo Olympian Bhawna Jat finished second with a timing of 1:32:31.00 and Sonal Sukhwal (1:32:40.00) was placed third in the 20km event. |
