CMIE figures puncture J&K Govt’s employment claims | Unemployment rate in UT touches 25%, 2nd highest in India | | EARLY TIMES Report
Jammu, Apr 16: The tall claims of the government to address unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir have fallen as the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) figures have revealed that the unemployment rate in the Union Territory has touched 25 percent for the month of March, despite the national unemployment rate witnessing a decline. The unemployment rate in J&K, according to the CMIE, is higher than the national level unemployment rate of 7.6 percent recorded across the country. The unemployment rates are produced by CMIE using its Consumer Pyramids Household Survey machinery. It’s in place to mention here that the J&K Government has been claiming that numerous steps are being taken to address the unemployment in the Himalayan region but the CMIE figures have punctured the tall claims of the helmsmen. In the absence of the private sector, Jammu and Kashmir is unable to absorb the educated youth, who every now and then hit the streets to get heard. According to CMIE among all states, and Union Territories, UT of J&K has the second-highest unemployment rate, Haryana with a 26.7 percent unemployment rate is ahead of J&K. In January, J&K’s Chief Secretary had stated that the unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir had decreased to 15 percent in December 2021, and impressed upon the department to further improve employment avenues in the Union Territory. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The J&K Government is addressing unemployment only on papers. On ground the situation is grim. The government’s decision to withdraw the posts has hit the youth hard. The decision disappointed them.” He said, “The helmsmen need to focus on ground rather than making tall claims which are aimed at gaining publicity. Their rhetoric is not helping anyone’s cause.” |
