Students protest, demand rollback of SAC decision | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 20: Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) along with a large number of students of the University of Jammu protested against the decision of direct recruitment of teachers taken by the State Administrative Council (SAC). The protesting students from various departments of the University of Jammu assembled outside the campus and blocked the main road in support of their demands for some time which disrupted the vehicular movement. However, the police personnel lifted the protesting students and detained a few of them including females. A female protester said that detaining students will not solve the issue, adding that the administration should come forward and listen to the aggrieved students. Protesting students said that the SAC had stopped direct recruitment of teachers and the students who were pursuing postgraduate courses in various subjects might not be able to get jobs for the next 10 to 15 years. They said that the SAC notification of 2018 referred to the promotion of ReTs and teachers already in service in the Education Department, and thus, the direct recruitment had been stopped. "The government should have ensured 80 percent direct recruitment and 20 percent promotion quota in the interest of the unemployed youth wishing to become teachers," the protesters said. Protesters demanded a review of the notification and warned that they will keep on protesting until and unless this anti-youth decision is rolled back. Later, the protesting students dispersed peacefully. |
