In cash starved JK, Govt ‘hurriedly’ spends Rs 1 Cr to hire vehicles for Panchayat Day conference | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: In cash-starved Jammu and Kashmir, the government is “hurriedly” spending Rs one crore to hire vehicles for the Panchayat Day celebrations scheduled on April 24. Officials said when the government was spending Rs one crore on transportation alone, the total amount being spend on the event can only be imagined. Official documents accessed by the Early Times reveal that the Transport Department had sought huge money for the expenditure vide Transport Department's No. TC/JK/857-63 dated 08-04-2022, 0.M No. TRPT-ACCTOBGT/4/2022-02 dated 11-04-2022 8c 0.M No. TRPT-ACCTOBOT/4/2022-02 dated 12-04-2022. The money is likely to be spent through the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu. “Sanction is hereby accorded to the release/ transfer of funds to the tune of Rs 1.00 Crore (One Crore only) in favour of Divisional Commissioner Jammu on account of hiring of vehicles for Panchayat Day conference on 24-04,022,” reads Government Order No:11 -RD & PR of 2022 dated 9-04.2022 issued through the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raaj. As per the official documents, “the amount shall be debited to Account No: 0110040500000087 (Central Account of le FCA) maintained at JK Bank, Branch Moving Secretariat, Jammu/ Srinagar and credited into the official account of Divisional Commissioner Jammu.” A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that “such a big expenditure to hire vehicles at such a short notice only to show a big number of vehicles at the conference is yet another attempt of the Raj Bhawan to give a rosy picture of the sad state of affairs.” “On one hand government has no money for the unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir and on the other crores are being spend on festivities. This is now this administration is misleading New Delhi over Jammu and Kashmir,” he added. Ironically the money is being spend “lavishly” on the festivities when the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General has recently asked New Delhi to make officials in JK accountable for spending. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been seeking intervention of the Modi government into the allegedly state of affairs in the Union Territory. |
