Historic Mughal road still closed despite clearance of snow | | | Early Times Report POONCH, Apr 20: The historic Mughal road, an alternate road connection for the regular Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, remained closed though snow clearance operation has been completed recently. The historic road connecting Shopian in South Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was closed in winters due to accumulation of snow and avalanches. Officials within the Mechanical Department said that the snow clearance work which was started in March has been completed on April 2 and traffic can be restored on it. People from Shopian as well as Poonch and Rajouri districts have demanded reopening of Mughal road for traffic as due to its closure they are forced to take longer routes. "It is quite unfortunate that despite the snow clearance operation has been completed the traffic is yet to be restored on the road," the residents living on both sides of the road said. A resident of Poonch said that the traffic should now be resumed on the road as nearly a month has passed since the clearance of snow. He maintained that for going to Kashmir valley, they have to go to Jammu first and then take another vehicle for Srinagar taking more than two days. However, it will take hours to reach the valley through Mughal road. "Several students as well as some patients from Poonch and Rajouri are stuck in Kashmir due to the closure of the road. We are facing a lot of difficulties due to non-operational Mughal road," he said. He demanded immediate reopening of the road as continued closure has badly hit their business and other activities of the residents. |
