agencies NEW DELHI, Apr 20: Run by the richest cricket board in the world, the IPL is among the world's highest-paid tournaments. According to Forbes, IPL is the sixth most valuable sports league in the world, behind the NFL, the Champions League and Europe's four big football leagues. Uncapped players earn more from the two-month tournament than they do all through the year from domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy. Indian marquee players like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are among the top earners in the league's history. Let's find out how much money they've made from the tournament since its inception in 2008. MS Dhoni has drawn a salary of Rs 1,648,400,000 from 15 seasons of the IPL. The wicketkeeper-batsman joined CSK in 2008 as a marquee player and remained at the team's helm till the 2021 season before relinquishing captaincy ahead of IPL 2022. Under his captaincy, CSK has won four IPL titles and has made the most appearances by any team in the playoffs (11) and the final (9). As a batsman, MSD is among the top 10 run-scorers in IPL history. He drew a salary of Rs 60,000,000 in each of the first three seasons of the tournament. For IPL 2022, Dhoni was retained for Rs 120,000,000, which is slightly lesser than the amount of Rs 150,000,000 he drew each season from 2018 to 2021. |
