Garbage Disposal System
4/26/2022 12:15:07 AM

The garbage disposal in Jammu region seems to be emerging as a big challenge for the municipal committees and councils. There are many areas in Jammu where no place has been earmarked for the proper disposal of the garbage. This lack of planning has created a lot of problems for the common people as open garbage dumps in the residential areas have become breeding grounds for dogs and other animals. These open dumps lead to infections getting spread and people falling sick.
The administration is claiming that Jammu is being turned into a “Smart City,” if it is true then why no mechanism has been put in place to dispose of the garbage.
Why do people always keep on complaining and blaming the administration for its failure to come up with a proper mechanism to keep the Jammu city clean.
It’s not only Jammu city where the open garbage dumps have become a nuisance for the people. The story is the same in other districts.
In Rajouri district a social activist had sat on a dharana against the failure of the Municipal Council to identify a proper site for the garbage disposal. His sit-in had led to a fine of Rs 61 lakhs being imposed on the Council for its failure to come up with a proper garbage dumping site in the area.
There are many districts like Rajouri in Jammu region where the municipal committees and corporations have failed to install the garbage disposal plants to get rid of the solid and liquid waste.
At many places one can see these garbage dumping sites being ruled by stray animals, including cows and dogs.
It’s really unfortunate that even in the 21st century Jammu region has no proper garbage disposal system in place.
Ones who keep on making the tall claims about Jammu is witnessing massive development need to first set up a proper garbage disposal mechanism in the region.
It’s the basic requirement for any region to become smart and developed. Any region having garbage dumps spread across its length and bready cannot be called a developed region.
