Students suffering amid scorching heat, irregular power supply: Sahni | Shiv Sena demands early summer vacation | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 30: Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir unit has demanded early announcement of summer vacation in schools in view of the early hot summer this year with increasing power cuts compounding the miseries of the students. During a press conference held at Shiv Sena J&K Unit office today, the J&K chief Manish Sahni said that the heat wave continues to sweep northern parts of India including Jammu quite early during the ongoing summer season with people feeling highly uncomfortable due to scorching heat. While the common man is highly perturbed due to immense heat conditions, the frequent unscheduled power outages have compounded the miseries as its direct fallout has been upon drinking water supply. However amidst such chaotic situation, the condition of school going children is most pathetic. Sahni said that in absence of electricity, it is very difficult for the students to sit in school classrooms as most of the government as well as private schools do not have the inverter or generator facilities. The presence of 40-50 students in a class room amid peak temperatures without electricity amounts to no less cruelty against them. He said that in such a helpless situation there is risk to the health of the students and it could even prove fatal with further rise in mercury. Considering all these factors in totality, Shiv Sena demands that the Education Department should immediately declare summer vacation in schools leaving no scope for any untoward happening due to intolerable heat conditions amid power outages. On this occasion Gen Secretary Vikas Bakshi and Udhampur-Doda Prabhari Aswani Prabhakar were also present. |
