Govt's ‘self-contradictory’ statement on power crisis adds to confusion | Limited Bole Tao Adequate? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 30: While Jammu and Kashmir is facing “worst-ever power crises”, an allegedly “self-contradictory” statement issued by the government has “now added chaos to the crises.” While Jammu continues to bear the brunt of crises, the recent statement of the government that “adequate power supply was being ensured” with “limited supplies” has left many electrical engineers and bureaucrats “puzzled” On April 29, the Information Department issued a handout that “Power Development Department taking steps to ensure adequate power supply” The statement said: “We are trying to procure as much power as available at the energy exchange at whichever price. But, due to increased nationwide demand, we can avail limited power only…” The power engineers said the statement was in itself conveying that that PDD was unable to manage its affairs.” “If the department admits that ‘it can avail limited power only’, how is it possible that adequate supplies are being ensured,” said a group of bureaucrats on the condition of anonymity. They said the PDD has issued a statement, which has “only added salt to the wounds of power crises hit people.” A section of bureaucracy in Jammu and Kashmir is already divided over Raj Bhawan’s silence over much needed probe into what pushed the Union Territory into such a severe power crises all of a sudden. While roadside protests against the PDD have become a “new normal”, what is even shocking is that the industrial sector is at the verge of closure due to prolonged outages. It’s for the second consecutive year that Jammu in particular is facing severe power crises in scorching heat of summer. Last year also Jammuites were left to fend for themselves while as finally in June 2021 the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while breaking his silence had ordered a probe against the PDD. But this year, when the entire Jammu and Kashmir is facing power crises, the Raj Bhawan looks unwilling to order a probe. |
