Govt Hospital Khour lacks basic facilities, medical specialists
4/30/2022 11:16:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 30: Though the Government Hospital at Tehsil Headquarters Khour in Jammu district has a huge building that is even bigger than the Sub-District Hospital Akhnoor yet this health institution lacks basic facilities and medical specialists.
According to locals of Khour and nearby villages, the hospital doesn’t have the facility of Orthopedics OPD neither it has the services of a Pediatrician due to which people of about 30 to 40 hamlets in the area have no option other than to go to Akhnoor or Jammu for the treatment of their wards.
They said that the health institution has only one specialist doctor of Gynae while the rest are Medical Officers.
They further informed that the Ultrasound machine is non-functional for the last one year as it developed some fault but the authorities never bothered to opt for its repair or replacement.
Locals further said that the X-ray facility at the hospital has been given on a lease to a private firm. Even as the facility of X-ray is digital the private operators do not provide the reports before 6-7 hours, that too only on Whatsapp and not in the form of a film.
The hospital has a single gynaecologist, who hardly has a role to play in case of an emergency as the concerned doctor is unable to perform a surgery in the absence of requisite equipment and staff, the residents said.
“Basically, this hospital is a mockery of sorts. The hospital is not well equipped and strengthened with the posting of specialist doctors due to which it has become only a referral hospital,” people lamented.
“The health department has failed to provide specialist doctors despite making several requests in the past. In the absence of medical specialists most patients who require special treatment are referred either to Akhnoor or Jammu hospitals,” they added.
