Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Apr 7: In a continued effort to curb bovine smuggling in the region, District Police Udhampur successfully foiled yet another smuggling attempt and rescued ten bovines being transported illegally. The operation also led to the arrest of three accused persons involved in the crime. The police team from Police Station Udhampur, led by its Station House Officer (SHO), was conducting routine vehicle checking at the Jakhani Naka point when they intercepted three suspicious vehicles - Mahindra Bolero (JK14K-5066), Mahindra Bolero (JK02BV-2755), and Tata Yodha (JK14J-3731). Upon checking, the police found a total of 10 bovines tied in a cruel and inhumane manner, being transported without any valid permission or documents. The bovines were immediately rescued and shifted to a safer location. The drivers of the vehicles, identified as: Mukhtiyar Ahmed, son of Abdul Latief, resident of Sunari, Udhampur Showkat Ali, son of Sher Ali, resident of Jakhar, Udhampur Tariq Hussain, son of Arshad Ahmed, resident of Krimachi Mansar, Udhampur were arrested on the spot. In this regard, separate cases under FIR Nos. 103/2025, 104/2025, and 105/2025 have been registered at Police Station Udhampur under the relevant provisions of law. The police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter to identify the broader network involved in the illegal transportation of cattle. District Police Udhampur reaffirmed their commitment to curbing such illegal activities and protecting animal welfare. |
