Nothing outside constitution, focus on development: PM Modi
Kashmir Unrest
8/9/2016 11:33:55 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 9: The PM has clearly indicated that there would not be any talks with the separatists or anything outside the Indian constitution. The PM has also made it clear that his government wouldn't be discussing any proposals like Greater Autonomy or any more autonomy to the state.
The PM breaking his silence on the unrest in the Kashmir, which has till not claimed about 55 lives has clearly underlined that development alone will be focus of his government and if the talks are to be held than it will be held with in the premises of the Vajpayee doctrine.
"The way PM has pegged the Kashmir unrest on the development is quite clear he is no going much into the political nuances on the problem. He is very much focused on this front. He has again reiterated his commitment to the Vajpayee doctrine and which is nothing new," said the official.
The separatists had held talks with the then Deputy Prime Minister but the government made it clear that nothing outside constitution would be considered. The Vajpayee tried to improve relations with the Pakistan and the same thing the Modi also tried but he has not seen any reciprocation.
"Modi has attempted to normalize relation with the Pakistan, which holds narrative in the Kashmir. But the Pakistan didn't respond so he can't be faulted. And secondly, he has made clear umpteen times that development only is the route to peace in the Kashmir and he is deliberately ignoring political dimension of it. It's the new matrix of the Modi government. It has frustrated many elements especially track-II specialists and which is also fuelling protest," said the official.
The comment by the PM Modi comes a day before another debate on the Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha and also after the meeting of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti with the home minister.
The Centre knows that his this matrix would face tough resistance but it's determined to break the older mould that protests can force the government to come to the knees.
