Poonch district sans tourism Infra

Poonch, Aug 13: Just 3 cloth banners unfurling in entire district , the state tourism department is otherwise nowhere in sight , while as tourists from all over the country visiting Buddha Amarnath shrine and other places in the district return with disappointment, sources said here today.
Sources said if state Tourism Department would have been serious to flourish tourism industry in this frontier district it would had raised an infrastructure to provide facilities to tourists particularly visiting Buddha Amarnath shrine which is one of the famous spots in Mandi area.
Sources said a building was constructed earlier to house pilgrims and tourists which never reached to its completion despite Rs 1.25cr was withdrawn against its expenses. As there is no infastrcuture visitors return in hotch potch manner as there is no attraction stalls or any such type of facility provided to them by the department . They said another building was also constructed by the department but that was unsafe and ill maintained hence cannot be used for any puroses, sources added.
Tourism department has failed to raise any infrastructure in the district where as there were only 3 cloth banners unfurling indiacting , welcome , Tourism Department Buddha Amrnath Yatra and so on . Sharing his views with Early Times a social worker Molvi Moud farid said that whenever Buddha Amarnath yatra commences pilgrims need accommodation , stalls and other attractions but their hope takes ugly turn when they reach over there .
While talking to Tourism officer Mohd Akram Thakur said that he has no knowledge about it hence it is all maintained by Poonch Development Authority. Meanwhile Mendhar Youth club President Advocate Nadeem khan urged the concerned authorities to revive tourism infrastructure in the district so that more and more tourists as well as pilgrims will boast economy.
