People in Kashmir mistake Lok Sabha resolution for Delhi's surrender

Early Times Report

Jammu,Aug 13: It was a case of much ado about nothing when the Lok Sabha adopted a resolution appealing to people to maintain peace. Are people in Kashmir ready to accept appeals and requests from the Government of India and members of the LoK Sabha ? They are not because the level of violence they have indulged in seem to have raised hopes in their mind that Azadi was round the corner. Those who have been in the forefront of the agitation mistake the Lok Sabha resolution appealing for peace as a sign of Delhi's surrender. This a misconception because in the resolution the Lok Sabha members have stated that there should be no compromise with security, integrity and sovereignty of the nation.During All Party meet Modi wanted Pakistan to focus on atrocities being committed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Baluchistan. He wanted liberation of occupied Kashmir which is part of India and it was simply a repetition of 1994 resolution which the Parliament had adopted.
And the same elusive hopes were there in the mind of militants, their supporters and most of the people in Kashmir during 1988-1990.And when on July 31,1988 militants damaged the sentinel box in front of the central Telegraph Office and ripped open a wall of a Club in Srinagar people thought Azadi was round the corner.
Voicing concern over prolonged curfew, violence and loss of lives in Kashmir, Lok Sabha has unanimously passed a resolution, appealing for urgent steps to restore order and peace in the valley while asserting that there can be no compromise with the country's integrity and security. In the resolution read out by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, the House appealed to all sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir to restore the confidence among the people in general and youth in particular.
The House "conveys its deep sense of anguish and concern over the loss of lives and critical injuries caused by the deteriorating situation," it said.
Amid thumping of desks by members from all sides, the resolution asserted that the House "is of the firm and considered view that there cannot be any compromise on unity, integrity and national security.
Yes,there was a need for adopting a resolution by the Lok Sabha but if one reads between the lines the contents of the resolution the Indian parliamentarians have opposed any compromise on the unity, integrity and national security which means that stern steps were to be taken to deal with those who indulged in acts of violence.Once report says and 80 additional companies of security forces were to be deployed in the Kashmir valley after over 3,000 security personnel, including some from the police, have been injured.
Number of police officials have not been able to attend to their duties because of the serious injuries they have received during clashes with the protesters.
Despite this resolution and Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, chairing a meeting of leaders from All Parties where the Kashmir situation dominated the discussion Working President of the National Conference,Omar Abdullah,is furious over the way he was not invited to the All Party meeting held in New Delhi. And his frustration is writ large on his lovely face when he says there was no need for the centre to send an All Party delegation to Kashmir. He has stated that when in 2010 a delegation of All Parties landed in Kashmir it recommended sending interlocutors. That was accepted but the recommendations of the interlocutors have not been implemented.
Since Omar Abdullah is a prominent stakeholder he should have been invited but was left out because of his unhelpful tweets. As head of the premier political party he was supposed tohelp the Government in resolving the turmoil but instead he is blamed by the coalition Government and the centre for inciting trouble.
Will militants, separatists and their handlers across the LoC,who matter more than innopcent people in Kashmir, respond favourably to the appeal for peace made by the members of the Lok Sabha ? No Pakistan does not want to waste an opportunity for denigrading India and it has now started accusing the RAW of organizing terrorists strike in Quetta when terrorists have already owned their responsibility.
